4th GRADE MATH TEST WITH SOLUTION

Problem 1 :

How many two digit numbers are there ?

(A) 70                 (B) 80               (C) 90

Solution :

(1)  From 10 to 19 there are 10 numbers

(2)  20 to 29  =  10 numbers

(3)  30 to 39  =  10 numbers

(4)  40 to 49  =  10 numbers

(5)  50 to 59  =  10 numbers

(6)  60 to 69  =  10 numbers

(7)  70 to 79  =  10 numbers

(8)  80 to 89  =  10 numbers

(9)  90 to 99  =  10 numbers

So, there are 90 two digit numbers.

Problem 2 :

What numbers do the roman numeral XVII represent?

(A) 15                  (B) 17               (C) 19

Solution :

The roman numeral of XVII is 17.

Problem 3 :

What is the exponential form of 800 ?

(A) 32 52             (B) 52 25             (B) 32 55

Solution :

800  =  2⋅22⋅2⋅2⋅5⋅5

=  25⋅52

Problem 4 :

What is the exponential form of 122.

 (A) 12 x 2                (B) 12 x 12        (C) 12 x 12 x 2

Solution :

12=  12 x 12

Problem 5 :

Find the greatest number which divides 63 and 80 leaving the remainders 3 and 5 respectively.

 (A) 15                     (B) 16                (C) 18

Solution :

To find the greatest number which divides 63 and 80 leaving the remainders 3 and 5, let us subtract 3 and 5 from 63 and 80 respectively and find highest common factor.

63 - 3  =  60  ==>  5⋅2⋅2⋅3

80 - 5  =  75  ==>  5⋅5⋅3

HCF (60, 75)  =  5⋅3 ==>  15

So, 15 is the greatest number.

Problem 6 :

Subtract 546.925 - 52.68

(A) 523.125              (B) 494.245             (C) 5142.70

Solution :

546.925 - 52.68  =  494.245

Problem 7 :

A ream of paper weighs 12.5 kg. What is the weight per quire if 20 quires make one ream ?

(A) 5/8 kg               (B) 5/6 kg                (C) 2/3 kg

Solution :

Weight of 20 quires  =  12.5

Weight of 1 quire  =  12.5/20

=  0.625

=  625/1000

=  5/8 kg

Problem 8 :

Find 40% of 160.

 (A) 51                (B) 52                 (C) 64

Solution :

=  40% of 160

=  (40/100) ⋅ 160

=  64

Problem 9 :

The average of three numbers is 21. Two of the numbers are 18 and 20. Find the third number.

(A) 25                   (B) 35                (C) 28

Solution :

Let x be the unknown.

Average of three numbers  =  21

(18 + x + 20)/3  =  21

38 + x  =  63

x  =  63 - 38

x  =  25

Problem 10 :

5 men can do a piece of work in 20 days for 8 hours each. In how many days can 8 men do the same for 10 hours each?

(A) 15 days            (B) 10 days          (C) 7 days

Solution :

5 men complete the work in 20 Days by working 8 hours per day.

It means by working 8 x 5 - 40 man-hours per Day the work will be completed in 20 days.

It will be Lesser days.

(40/ 80) x 20 days = 10 days

Hence, 8 men working for 10 hours in a day will take 10 days to complete the work.
