4th GRADE MATH PRACTICE TEST

Problem 1 :

____ ÷ 3 = 5

Solution :

Let x be the missing number.

x/3 = 5

Dividing an unknown by 3, we get 5. Remembering 3 times table, 5 x 3 = 15. So, dividing 15 by 3, we will get 5.

Problem 2 :

Sarah bought six candy bars. It cost $4.20. How much did each candy bar cost ?

Solution :

Number of candy bars to be bought = 6

Total cost = $4.20

Cost of each candy bar = 4.20

= 4.20/6

= 0.7

So, cost of each candy bar is 0.7

Problem 3 :

Find the missing term in the sequence below.

156, 169, ___, 195, 208, 221, 234

Solution :

156, 169, ___, 195, 208, 221, 234

156 + 13 ==> 169

195 + 13 ==> 208

208 + 13 ==> 221

221 + 13 ==> 234

Then,

169 + 13 ==> 182

So, the missing term is 182.

Problem 3 :

84 ÷ 7 = ?

Solution :

4th-grade-math-testq3

84 ÷ 7 = ?

Quotient = 12

Remainder = 0

Problem 4 :

How many hundreds are in the number 34000 ?

Solution :

To know the given number is multiple of how much hundreds,

34 x 1000 = 34000

340 x 100 = 34000

So, there are 340 hundreds in 34000.

Problem 5 :

Holly has 22 nickels. How much money is that ?

Solution :

Conversion between nickels, dollars and cents.

1 nickel = 5 cents, that is 0.05

100 cents = $1

22 nickels = 22 x 0.05

= 1.1

Converting decimal as integer, we get

= 1.1 x 100

= 110

So, the amount he has is $1 and 10 cents.

Problem 6 :

Double 20

Solution :

Doubling 20, we get

= 20 x 20

= 400

Problem 7 :

In the parking lot there are 13 vehicles. There are 3 SUVs. What fraction of the vehicles are not SUV ?

Solution :

Total number of vehicles = 13

Number of SUV = 3

Number of vehicles those are not SUV = 13 - 3

= 10

Fraction of vehicles are not SUV = 10/13

Problem 8 :

Jessica went to the cafe and ordered a turkey and swiss cheese sandwich, a cup of potato salad and a milkshake. The sandwich cost $2.58, the potato salad cost $1.23 and milkshake cost $1.28. How much did Jessica's meal cost in all ?

Cost of meal is $5.09.

Problem 9 :

Maria made a flag to display during red cross month. The flag was 9 feet long and 2/3 feet wide. She drew a large red cross in the middle of it. What is the area of the flag ?

Solution :

Length of the flag = 9 feet

Width of the flag = 2/3 feet

Area of flag = length x widht

= 9 x (2/3)

= 6 square feet

So, the required area of the flag is 6 square feet.

Problem 10 :

Max is taking a 24 hour walk challenge. He is trying to stay awake of 24 hours and plans to walk as far as he can. Each hour he plans to sit and rest only 8 minutes. If he is able to do this, how long will he spend walking and not resting during during 24 hours ?

Solution :

Number of hours he is walking = 24

Number of minutes, he is spending for rest = 8 minutes for hour

Time taking for rest = 8 x 24

= 192

= 180 + 12

= 3 hours and 12 minutes

So, he is taking 3 hours and 12 minutes.
