FINDING THE MIDPOINT OF A LINE SEGMENT

Find the midpoint between the two given points.

Problem 1 :

midpoint-of-line-seg-q1

Solution:

Write the Midpoint Formula,

=M(x1+x2)2,(y1+y2)2Substitute (0,3) for (x1,y1) and (-5,-3) for (x2,y2).=M(0-5)2,(3-3)2=M-52,02=M-52,0

Problem 2 :

midpoint-of-line-seg-q2

Solution:

Write the Midpoint Formula,

=M(x1+x2)2,(y1+y2)2Substitute (-2,3) for (x1,y1) and (3,-2) for (x2,y2).=M(-2+3)2,(3-2)2=M12,12

Problem 3 :

midpoint-of-line-seg-q3

Solution:

Write the Midpoint Formula,

=M(x1+x2)2,(y1+y2)2Substitute (2,0) for (x1,y1) and (-2,0) for (x2,y2).=M(2-2)2,(0+0)2=M02,02=M(0,0)

Problem 4 :

midpoint-of-line-seg-q4

Solution:

Write the Midpoint Formula,

=M(x1+x2)2,(y1+y2)2Substitute (5,1) for (x1,y1) and (0,-3) for (x2,y2).=M(5+0)2,(1-3)2=M52,-22=M52,-1

Problem 5 :

midpoint-of-line-seg-q5

Solution:

Write the Midpoint Formula,

=M(x1+x2)2,(y1+y2)2Substitute (9,2) for (x1,y1) and (-5,4) for (x2,y2).=M(9-5)2,(2+4)2=M42,62=M(2,3)

Problem 6 :

midpoint-of-line-seg-q6

Solution:

Write the Midpoint Formula,

=M(x1+x2)2,(y1+y2)2Substitute (-2,3) for (x1,y1) and (4,-2) for (x2,y2).=M(-2+4)2,(3-2)2=M22,12=M1,12

Problem 7 :

Find the midpoint of the line segment AB if point A is at (3, 9) and point B is at (8, 2).

Solution:

Write the Midpoint Formula,

=M(x1+x2)2,(y1+y2)2Substitute (3,9) for (x1,y1) and (8,2) for (x2,y2).=M(3+8)2,(9+2)2=M112,112

Problem 8 :

Find the midpoint of the line segment JK if point J is at (-2, -6) and point K is at (5, 7).

Solution:

Write the Midpoint Formula,

=M(x1+x2)2,(y1+y2)2Substitute (-2,-6) for (x1,y1) and (5,7) for (x2,y2).=M(-2+5)2,(-6+7)2=M32,12

Problem 9 :

Find the midpoint of the line segment XY if point X is at (1, 2) and point Y is at (4, 3).

Solution:

Write the Midpoint Formula,

=M(x1+x2)2,(y1+y2)2Substitute (1,2) for (x1,y1) and (4,3) for (x2,y2).=M(1+4)2,(2+3)2=M52,52

Problem 10 :

Find the midpoint of the line segment GH if point G is at (-3, -9) and point H is at (-4, -2).

Solution:

Write the Midpoint Formula,

=M(x1+x2)2,(y1+y2)2Substitute (-3,-9) for (x1,y1) and (-4,-2) for (x2,y2).=M(-3-4)2,(-9-2)2=M-72,-112
