  • If the equation is in the form x = a or x = -a, then the graph of the required line will be parallel to x axis.
  • If the equation is in the form y = a or y = -a, then the graph of the required line will be parallel to y axis.

Question 1 :

Draw the graph for the following linear equations

(i)  y = 4

Solution :

Since the equation is in the form y = a, it is parallel to x - axis.

(ii)  x  =  -2

Since the given equation is in the form x = -a, it will be parallel about y - axis.

(iii) 2x − 4 = 0.

Solution :

First let us solve the equation for x.

2x  =  4

x  =  4/2  =  2

Since it is in the form, the graph of the required line will be parallel to y - axis.

(iv)  6 + 2y  =  0

Solution :

 2y  =  -6

y  =  -6/2   =  -3

y  =  -3

(v) 9 – 3x = 0

Solution :

-3x  =  -9

x  =  3
