DIVISIBILITY RULE FOR 2

All even numbers are divisible by 2.

A number  ends with one of the following digits is called as even number.

0, 2, 4, 6 or 8

Example 1 :

Check whether 16 is divisible by 2.

Solution :

16 ends with the digit 6.

So, 16 is an even number and it is divisible by 2.

Example 2 :

Check whether 300 is divisible by 2.

Solution :

300 ends with the digit 0.

So, 300 is an even number and it is divisible by 2.

Example 3 :

Check whether 27 is divisible by 2.

Solution :

27 ends with the digit 7.

So, 27 is not an even number and it is not divisible by 2.

Example 4 :

8k is a two digit number and it is divisible by 2. If k is an integer between 0 and 5, find all possible values of k.

Solution :

Because k is an integer between 0 and 5, the possible values of k are

1, 2, 3, 4

Substitute the above values for k in 8k.

Then, we have

81, 82, 83, 84

In the above numbers, only 82 and 84 are even numbers and they are divisible by 2.

For k  =  2 and 4, the two digit number 8k is an even number.

So, the possible values of k are 2 and 4.
