# WRITING FRACTIONS AS DECIMALS AND PERCENTS WORKSHEETS

Writing Fractions as Decimals and Percents Worksheets :

Worksheet given in this section will be much useful for the students who would like to practice problems on converting fractions into decimals and percents.

## Writing Fractions as Decimals and Percents Worksheets - Problems

Problem 1 :

1/8 of the animals treated by the veterinarian are dogs.

Write 1/8 as a decimal and as a percent.

Problem 2 :

96 out of 200 animals treated by a veterinarian are horses.

Write 96/200 as a decimal and as a percent. ## Writing Fractions as Decimals and Percents Worksheets - Solutions

Problem 1 :

1/8 of the animals treated by the veterinarian are dogs.

Write 1/8 as a decimal and a s a percent.

Solution :

Notice that the denominator is not a factor or multiple of 100.

Step 1 :

Use long division to divide the numerator by the denominator. The decimal equivalent of 1/8 is 0.125.

Step 2 :

Now, let us write the decimal as a percent.

First write the fraction equivalent of the decimal.

In 0.125, since there are three digits after the decimal point, we can write it as a fraction with denominator 1000.

So, we have

0.125  =  125 / 1000

Step 3 :

Write the percent equivalent.

Percent means per hundred

That is, the given number to be written as a fraction with denominator 100.

So, we have to write 125/1000 as an equivalent fraction with denominator 100,

For that,  we have to divide 125 and 1000 by 10.

125/1000  =  (125÷10) / (1000÷10)

125/1000  =  12.5 / 100

125/1000  =  12.5%

The percent equivalent of 1/8 is 12.5%.

Problem 2 :

96 out of 200 animals treated by a veterinarian are horses.

Write 96/200 as a decimal and as a percent.

Solution :

Step 1 :

Write an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100.

To write 96/200 as an equivalent fraction with a denominator 100, we have to divide 96 and 200 by 100.

96/200  =  (96÷2) / (200÷2)  =  48 / 100

Step 2 :

In 48/100, since the denominator is 100, 48/100 can be easily converted to decimal.

Because, if we divide a number by 100, in the result there should two digits after the decimal point.

(Because there are two zeros in 100)

So, we have

48 / 100  =  0.48

Step 3 :

Write the percent equivalent.

Percent means per hundred

That is, the given number is compared to hundred.

In 48 / 100, since 48 is compared to 100, we have

48 / 100  =  48% After having gone through the stuff given above, we hope that the students would have understood, how to solve problems on converting fractions into decimals and percentages.
