Problem 1 :
There are 250 students in a school. 55 students like basketball, 75 students like football, 63 students like throw ball, while the remaining like cricket. What is the percent of students who like
(a) basket ball (b) throw ball (c) cricket
Solution :
Total number of students in a school = 250
Number of students who like basket ball = 55
Number of students who like foot ball = 75
Number of students who like throw ball = 63
Number of students who like cricket
= 250 - (55 + 75 + 63)
= 57
Percentage of students who like basket ball
= (55/250) x 100
= 0.22 x 100
= 22%
Percentage of students who like throw ball
= (63/250) x 100
= 0.252 x 100
= 25%
Percentage of students who like cricket
= (57/250) x 100
= 0.228 x 100
= 22.8%+
Problem 2 :
In a class of 35 students, 7 students were absent on a particular day. What percentage of the students were absent ?
Solution :
Total number of students = 35
Number of students who were absent = 7
Percentage of students who were absent = (7/35) x 100
= 700/35
= 20%
Problem 3 :
John bought 36 mangoes. 5 mangoes were rotten. What is the percentage of the mangoes that were rotten ?
Solution :
Total number of mangoes = 36
Number of rotten mangoes = 5
Percentage of rotten mangoes = (5/36) x 100%
= (31/36) x 100%
= 0.1388 x 100%
= 13.88%
Problem 4 :
In a class of 50, 23 were girls and the rest were boys. What is the percentage of girls and the percentage of boys?
Solution :
Total number of students = 50
Number of girls = 15
Number of boys = 50 - 15 = 35
Percentage of boys = (35/50) x 100%
= 0.7 x 100%
= 70%
Percentage of girls = (15/50) x 100%
= 0.3 x 100%
= 30%
Problem 5 :
John got 66 marks out of 75 in Mathematics and 72 out of 80 in Science. In which subject did he score more?
Solution :
To find in which she got more marks, we have to find the percentage of marks he scored.
Marks in math = 66 (out of 75)
Marks in science = 72 (out of 80)
Percentage of marks in the subject math
= (66/75) x 100% = 0.88 x 100% = 88%
Percentage of marks in the subject math
= (72/80) x 100% = 0.9 x 100% = 90%
So, John scored more marks in the subject science.
