Question 14 :

Two teams are having a contest in which the prize box of candy that the members of the winning team will divide evenly. If team A wins, each player will get exactly 3 pieces of candy, and if team B wins, each player will get exactly 5 pieces of candy. which of the following could be the number of pieces of candy in the box ?

(A)  153  (B)  325  (C)  333  (D)  425  (E)  555

Solution :

From the given question, we come to know that, The number chosen must be divisible by both 3 and 5.

555  ==>  5 + 5 + 5  =  15 (divisible by 3)

It ends with 5, so it is divisible by 5.

Question 15 :

Three consecutive multiples of 4 have a sum of 60. What is the greatest of these numbers ?

Solution :

Let "x" be the multiple of 4, then the consecutive multiples be x + 4, x + 8 respectively.

Sum of three consecutive multiples of 4  =  60

x + x + 4 + x + 8  =  60

3x + 12  =  60

3x  =  60 - 12

3x  =  48

x  =  48/3  =  16

x + 4  =  16 + 4  ==>  20

x + 8  =  16 + 8  ==>  24

The greatest of those three term is 24.

(A)  8  (B)  12  (C)  16  (D)  20  (E)  24

Question 16 :

Sheila cuts a 60 foot wire cable in equal strips of 4/5 of a feet each. How many strips does the make ?

(A)  48  (B)  51  (C)  60  (D)  70  (E)  75

Solution :

Let "x" be the number of parts to be cut out.

Each part measures 4/5 feet

60 / x  =  4/5

5(60)  =  4x

x  =  5(60)/4

x  =  75

Question 17 :

Which of the following is not odd ?

(A)  349  (B)  537  (C)  735  (D)  841  (E)  918

Which of the following can be the sum of two negative numbers ?

(A)  4  (B)  2  (C)  1  (D)  0  (E)  -1

Solution :

The sum of two negative numbers is always negative. In the given options -1 is the one and only negative number. Hence -1 is the required answer.

Question 19 :

Which of the following is not prime number ?

(A)  2  (B)  7  (C)  17  (D)  87  (E)  101

Solution :

2 is the only prime number which is even.

7, 17 is divisible by 1 and itself. But 87 is the number which is divisible by 3. So it is not prime.

Question 20 :

All of the following can be the product of a negative integer and positive integer except.

(A)  1  (B)  -1  (C)  -2  (D)  -4  (E)  -6

Solution :

By multiplying the negative integer by positive integer, we get negative answer.

1 is not having negative sign, hence it is not the product of  negative and positive integer.
