Question 13 :
A bag contains 8 white, 4 red, 7 green and 5 blue marbles. Then 8 marbles are withdrawn randomly. How many of the withdrawn marbles were white if the chance of drawing a white marble is now 1/4 ?
(A) 0 (B) 3 (C) 4 (D) 5 (E) 6
Solution :
Total number of marbles = 8 + 4 + 7 + 5
= 24
After drawing 8 marbles, we will have 16.
Chances of getting white marble = 1/4
Inorder to make the denominator 16, we have to multiply both numerator and denominator by 4.
= (1/4)⋅(4/4)
= 4/16
= Number of white marbles / Total number of marbles
Hence the number of white marble is 4.
Question 14 :
√1500 =
(A) 10 + √15 (B) 10√15 (C) 25
(D) 100 + √15 (E) 10√150
Solution :
In order to simplify √1500, let decompose 1500 using prime factorization.
√1500 = √(5 ⋅ 5 ⋅ 5 ⋅ 3 ⋅ 2 ⋅ 2)
= 5 ⋅ 2√(5 ⋅ 3)
= 10 √15
Hence the answer is 10 √15.
Question 15 :
2(3⋅2)2 - 27 (6 ÷ 2) + 32 =
(A) 72 (B) 9 (C) 3 (D) 0 (E) -24
Solution :
= 2(3⋅2)2 - 27 (6 ÷ 2) + 32
Perform the simplification in parenthesis.
= 2(6)2 - 27 (3) + 32
= 2(36) - 81 + 9
= 72 - 81 + 9
= 81 - 81
= 0
Hence the answer is 0.
