## WORD PROBLEMS ON MULTIPLYING INTEGERS WORKSHEET

Question 1 :

Pat has 9 boxes of erasers. Kelsey has 10 pencils. Each box of erasers holds 60. How many erasers does Pat have?

A) 90 erasers         B) 540 erasers

C) 600 erasers        D) 69 erasers

Solution :

Number of erasers that one box can contain  =  60

Number of boxes that Pat has  =  9

Number of erasers  =  60(9)

=  540 erasers

Question 2 :

Each child has 20 peanuts. If there are 8 children, how many peanuts are there in total ?

A) 28 peanuts       B) 1,600 peanuts

C) 160 peanuts      D) 180 peanuts

Solution :

Number of peanuts that each child has  =  20

Number of children  =  8

Total number of peanuts  =  20(8)

=  160 peanuts

Question 3 :

Mary has 4 boxes of marbles. Each box holds 30 marbles. Bill has 20 marbles that he bought last year and they look just like Mary's marbles.

How many marbles does Mary have ?

A) 600 marbles       B) 2,400 marbles

C) 120 marbles        D) 50 marbles

Solution :

Number of boxes that Ma      ry has  =  4

Number of marbles in each box  =  30

Total number of marbles that Mary has  =  30(4)

=  120 marbles

Question 4 :

In 2011, Eric went to the candy store a total of 100 times. In July, he was on summer vacation and went to the store 8 times. Each time he went to the candy store, he bought 10 pieces of candy.

How many pieces of candy did Eric buy in 2011 ?

A) 80 pieces           B) 1,000 pieces

C) 100 pieces          D) 800 pieces

Solution :

Eric went to candy store  =  100

Number of pieces of candy Eric bought  =  10

=  100(10)

=  1000

Question 5 :

The 408 chickens on Mrs. North's chicken farm each lay 22 eggs per week. 15 of the chickens have red feathers.

How many eggs does Mrs. North get each week ?

A) 6,120 eggs      B) 330 eggs

C) 8,976 eggs      D) 876 eggs

Solution :

Number of chickens in Mrs. North's farm  =  408

Number of eggs laid by each chicken per week  =  22

Total number of eggs  =  408(22)

=  8976

Question 6 :

Each day, 30 students use the pencil sharpener in Miss Loverde's room. How many times will they use the pencil sharpener in three weeks?

A) 60 times        B) 90 times

C) 900 times       D) 450 times

Solution :

Number of students use pencil sharpener  =  30

Number of weeks  =  3

Total number of times he uses the sharpener  =  30(3)

=  90

Question 7 :

Mrs. North bought 19 boxes of stickers. Each box holds 100 stickers. She gives out stickers to 25 students for having their agendas signed.

How many stickers will she have left after she gives out the 25 stickers ?

A) 475 stickers          B) 1,900 stickers

C) 1,875 stickers        D) 0 stickers

Solution :

Number of stickers that Mrs. North bought  =  19

Number of stickers in each box  =  100

Total number of stickers  =  19(100)

=  1900

Number of stickers she gives out  =  25

=  1900 - 25

=  1875

Question 8 :

The day of the fair, 425 people were each given 25 tickets for the rides.

How many tickets were given out at the fair ?

A) 1,625 tickets         B) 10,620 tickets

C) 10,625 tickets       D) 11, 026 tickets

Solution :

Number of people  =  425

Number of tickets given for the ride  =  25

Number of tickets given for the fair  =  425 (25)

=  10625

Question 9 :

Each day, Joe woke up and ran 24 laps on the race track. How many laps would he run in a year ?

A) 876 laps        B) 8,640 laps

C) 8,000 laps      D) 8,760 laps

Solution :

Number of laps  =  24

Total number of laps he run in the year  =  24(365)

=  8760

Question 10 :

Multiply 111 x 11

A) 121        B) 1221

C) 1211     D) 1121

Solution :

The product of 111 and 11 is 1221.
