Problem 1 :

If a tailor uses 3/4 m of cloth to make a skirt, how much cloth does he need for 7 skirts ?

(A) 5 ¼ m     (B) 2 ¼ m    (C)  3 ¼ m

Solution :

Length of cloth needed for one skirt  =  3/4 m

Length of cloth needed for 7 skirts  =  7 ⋅ (3/4)

  =  (7  3)/4

  =  21/4

  =  5   1/4  m

Problem 2 :

John made 5 cups of tea. She used 3/4 teaspoonful of sugar for each cup of tea. How many teaspoonful of sugar did she use in all ?

(A) 1 ¾      (B) 3 ¾      (C)  1 ¾

Solution :

Total no of cups of tea made by John  = 5

Quantity of sugar to make one cup of tea  =  3/4

Quantity of sugar to make 5 cups of tea  =  5  (3/4)

  =  15/4

  =  3  3/4

Problem 3 :

Mary bought 4/3 kg  of beef. She cooked  3/4 kg of it for lunch. How much beef did she cook ?

(A) 1 kg        (B) 3 kg       (C)  4 kg

Quantity of beef that she bought  =  4/3 kg

Quantity of beef that she cooked  =  3/4 kg

Remaining quantity of beef after used  =  (4/3) x (3/4)

  =  (4  3)/12

  =  1 kg

(A) 12        (B) 13        (C)  14

Solution :

No of picture cards does Jennifer have  = 18

No of picture cards gave to Mary = 18 ⋅ (1/3)

                                            =  18/3

                                            =  6

Remaining number of pictures

=  Original number of pictures - Number of pictures gave to Mary

  =  18 - 6

=  12

Weight of John  =  80 kg

Weight of his son  =  80 ⋅ (3/5)

  =  (80  3)/5

  =  240/5

  =  48 kg

Total weight  =  Weight of John + Weight of his son

  =  80 kg + 48 kg

  =  128 kg
