Basic idea:

In this problem a person is buying a property for $120000.He has to pay $ 2400 to a broker for arranging the purchase, now we need to find the percent of brokerage amount of the total purchase value. To solve this problem we have to divide 2400 by 120000. And we have to multiply this value with 100.

Total worth of property   =  $120000

Amount given to broker  =  $2400

percentage of brokerage of total purchase value =

(Brokerage amount/Total worth of the property) x 100

                                 = (2400/120000) x 100

                                 = (2400x100)/120000

                                 =  24/12
