Question:

12% of the books in a public library are English books. If there are 92000 books in the library, find the number of  English books.

Basic idea:

In a library there are 92000 books. In which 12% of books are English books. And now we need to find the number of books in English. To solve this problem we have to find 12% of total number of books. Here total number of books is 92000.So we have to multiply 12% of 92000.

Solution:

Number of books in the library  =   92000

percentage of English books = 12%

Number of  English books   =  12% of Total number of books

= 12% of 92000

=  (12/100) x 92000

= (12 x 92000)/100

Two zeroes in numerator and denominator will get canceled

So we will get

= (12 x 920)

= 11040

Total number of English books in the library = 11040
