Problem 5 :

Laura reads a book for 1¾ hours every day. She reads the entire book in 6 days. How many hours in all were required by her to read the book?

Problem 6 :

Problem 8 :

A sugar bag contains 30 kg of sugar. After consuming bag 2/3 of it, how much sugar is left in the bag?

Problem 9 :

Each side of a square is 6 m long. Find its area.

Problem 10 :

There are 45 students in a class and 3/5 of them are boys. How many girls are there in the class?

Width of each dime = 1/2 inch.

Number of dimes at the end = 5.

Length of dime at the end :

= 5 ⋅ (1/2)

= 5/2

= 2.5 inch

So, length of die at the end is 2.5 inch.

Number of cookies i have = 10.

Number of cookies that i am going to give to my friend :

= 1/2 of 10

= 1/2 ⋅ 10

So, i will give 5 cookies to my friend.

Number of cookies i have = 10.

Number of saplings in the garden = 4.

Distance between adjacent sapling = 3/4 m.

Distance between first and last sapling :

= 4 ⋅ (3/4)

= 12/4

= 3 m

So, the distance between the first and last sapling is 3 m.

In 1 hour part of the book completed by Ronald = 1/3.

Distance covered in 2 hours,

= 2 ⋅ 1/3

= 11/5 ⋅ 1/3

= 11/15

So, distance covered in 2 hours is 11/15 km.

Time spent by Laura to read book = 1¾ hours.

Number of days taken by her to complete the entire book

= 6 days

Time taken by her to complete the book :

= 1¾ ⋅ 6

= 7/4 ⋅ 6

= 42/4

= 21/2

= 10½

So, he will take 10½ hours to complete the book.

Cost of 1 of milk = \$17¾.

Cost of 7 liter of milk :

= (17¾⋅ (7)

= 71/4 ⋅ 37/5

= 2627/20

Converting to mixed fraction, we get

= \$131⁷⁄₂₀

Distance covered by Sharon in one hour = 8 km.

= 25/3

Distance covered in 2 2/5 hours :

= (2) ⋅ (25/3)

= 12/5 ⋅ 25/3

= 300/15

= 20 km

So, distance covered in 2 hours is 20 km.

Quantity of sugar = 30 kg.

Quantity of consumed :

= 2/3 of 30

= 2/3 ⋅ 30

= 60/3

= 20 kg

Quantity of sugar left in the bag :

= 30 - 20

= 10 kg

Side length of square :

6

= 20/3 m

Area of square :

= a2

Substitute a = 20/3.

= (20/3)2

= (20/3)2 ⋅ (20/3)

= 400/9

= 44⁴⁄₉ m2

Number of students in the class = 45.

Number of boys ;

= 3/5 of 45

= 3/5 ⋅ 45

= 135/5

= 27

Number of girls :

= 45 - 27

= 18
