**Modeling fraction division worksheet :**

Worksheet on modeling fraction division is much useful to the kids who would like to practice problems on dividing fractions

1. David has 3/4 cup of salsa for making burritos. Each burrito requires 1/8 cup of salsa. How many burritos can David make ?

2. Five people share 1/2 pound of cheese equally. How much cheese does each person receive?

3. One pizza can be made in 1/2 hour. How many pizzas can be made in 5/2 hours ?

4. David eats 1/4 of a pizza and divides the remaining in to two equal parts for his two kids. What is the part of the pizza will each kid receive ?

5. I can cover 3/4 mile in 1/2 hour by walk. Find the distance covered by in two hours.

**Problem 1 : **

David has 3/4 cup of salsa for making burritos. Each burrito requires 1/8 cup of salsa. How many burritos can David make ?

**Solution : **

To find the number of burritos that can be made, you need to determine how many 1/8 -cup servings are in 3/4 cup.

In the diagram given below, 3/4 of a whole is divided into quarters and into eighths.

In the whole cup, there are eight 1/8 cups.

But, David has 3/4 cup of salsa.

So, we have to count the number of 1/8 cups in 3/4 cup in the above diagram.

And there are six 1/8 cups in 3/4 cup of salsa.

Hence, David can make 6 burritos from 3/4 cup of salsa.

**Problem 2 : **

Five people share 1/2 pound of cheese equally. How much cheese does each person receive?

**Solution : **

To find how much cheese each person receives, you can divide 1/2 pound into 5 equal parts. Use the diagram to determine what fraction of a whole pound each person receives.

In the diagram given below, 1/2 of a whole is divided into halves and into tenths.

In one pound of cheese, there are ten 1/10s.

But, there is 1/2 pound of cheese.

So, we have to count the number of 1/10s in 1/2 pound of cheese.

And there are five 1/10s in 1/2 pound of cheese.

Hence, Each person will receive 1/10 pound of cheese.

**Problem 3 :**

One pizza can be made in 1/2 hour. How many pizzas can be made in 5/2 hours ?

**Solution : **

Time taken to make one pizza = 1/2 hour

No. of pizzas made in 5/2 hours = 5/2 ÷ 1/2

No. of pizzas made in 5/2 hours = 5/2 x 2/1

No. of pizzas made in 5/2 hours = (5x2) / (2x1)

No. of pizzas made in 5/2 hours = 5

**Problem 4 :**

David eats 1/4 of a pizza and divides the remaining in to two equal parts for his two kids. What is the part of the pizza will each kid receive ?

**Solution : **

Part of the pizza eaten by David = 1/4

Remaining pizza = 3/4

Given : Remaining pizza is divided in to equal parts for his two kids.

So, part of the pizza received by each kid is

= (3/4) ÷ 2

= 3/(4x2)

= 3/8

Hence, each kid will receive 3/8 part of the pizza.

**Problem 5 :**

I can cover 3/4 mile in 1/2 hour by walk. Find the distance covered by in two hours.

**Solution : **

Given : 3/4 miles of distance covered in 1/2 hour.

We all know the formula for speed. That is

Speed = Distance / Time

Here, Distance = 3/4 miles and time = 1/2 hour

Speed = (3/4) ÷ (1/2)

Speed = (3/4) x (2/1)

Therefore, speed is 3/2 miles per hour.

That is, 3/2 miles of distance covered in one hour.

Then the distance covered in two hours is

= (3/2) x 2

= 3 miles

Hence, I will cover 3 miles of distance in 2 hours.
