Model and solve equations using algebra tiles :
Here we are going to see how to model and solve the given equations using algebra tiles.
How to model and solve the given equations using algebra tiles ?
Step 1 :
First we have to model the given equation using the above tiles.
Step 2 :
Solve means finding the value of the variable. For that we need to isolate the variable.
In case we have three yellow tiles added with x terms on the left side, we need to use three red tiles to strike out those tiles.
Example 1 :
Model and solve the given equation using algebra tiles
2x + 2 = 10
Solution :
To model the above equation, we need to use two green rectangle tiles, two yellow tiles on the left side.
Ten yellow tiles on the right side.
In order to cancel two yellow square tiles on the left side, we need to use two red square tiles on both sides.
In the left side, we have two x tiles, so we have to arrange the right side tiles in two rows with same number of tiles appearing on each row.
Hence the value of x is 6.
Example 2 :
Model and solve the given equation using algebra tiles
2x + 2 = 6
Solution :
To model the above equation, we need to use two green rectangle tiles, two yellow tiles on the left side.
Six yellow tiles on the right side.
In order to cancel two yellow square tiles on the left side, we need to use two red square tiles on both sides.
In the left side, we have two x tiles, so we have to arrange the right side tiles in two rows with same number of tiles appearing on each row.
Hence the value of x is 2.
Example 3 :
Model and solve the given equation using algebra tiles
x - 2 = 8
Solution :
To model the above equation, we need to use one green rectangle tile, two red tiles on the left side.
Eight yellow tiles on the right side.
In order to cancel two red square tiles on the left side, we need to use two yellow square tiles on both sides.
In the left side, we have one x tile, so we have to arrange the right side tiles.
There are 5 tiles in each row, total number of rows are 2.The total number tiles are 10.
Hence the value of x is 10.
