MODEL AND SOLVE EQUATIONS USING ALGEBRA TILES WORKSHEET

Model and solve the following equations using algebra tiles.

Problem 1 :

2x + 2 = 14

Problem 2 :

2x + 2 = 6

Problem 3 :

x - 2 = 8

Problem 4 :

3x + 9 = -6

You can use the following algebra tiles to model and solve equations.

1. Answer :

2x + 2 = 14

Now use the above mentioned algebra tiles to model the equation on the mat.

To model the above equation, we need to use two green tiles, two yellow tiles on the left side and ten yellow tiles on the right side.

Remove two yellow tiles from each side of the mat. 

Divide each side into 2 equal groups.

Result : 

So, the solution is 

x = 6

2. Answer :

2x + 2 = 6

Now use the above mentioned algebra tiles to model the equation on the mat.

To model the above equation, we need to use two green tiles, two yellow tiles on the left side and six yellow tiles on the right side.

Remove two yellow tiles from each side of the mat. 

Divide each side into 2 equal groups.

Result : 

So, the solution is 

x = 2

3. Answer :

x - 2 = 8

Now use the above mentioned algebra tiles to model the equation on the mat.

To model the above equation, we need to use one green tile, two red tiles on the left side and eight yellow tiles on the right side.

To remove two red tiles on the left side, we need to add two yellow tiles on the right side. 

So, the solution is 

x = 10

4. Answer :

3x + 9 = -6

Now use the above mentioned algebra tiles to model the equation on the mat.

To model the above equation, we need to use three green tiles, nine yellow tiles on the left side and six red tiles on the right side. 

To remove nine yellow tiles on the left side, we need to add nine red tiles on the right side. 

Divide each side into 3 equal groups.

Result : 

So, the solution is 

x = -5
