Question:

In three packets there were \$ 13 ⅔ ,\$ 25 ⅓  and \$ 30 ⅙. The total amount in all the four packets is  \$ 95. What is the amount in the fourth packet?

Basic idea:

Here we have 3 amounts.But we have the sum of four amounts that is \$95.Now we need to find the fourth amount.To solve this problem we have to add all the three amounts and we have to subtract this from \$95.

Sum of amount <br> of three  packets  = 13 ⅔ +  25 ⅓  +  30 ⅙

Let "x"  be the amount of fourth packet

Remaining amount of fourth packet  = 95 - (13 ⅔ +  25 ⅓  +  30 ⅙)

= 95 - [(39+2)/3 +  (75+1)/3 + (180+1)/6

= 95 - [ 41/3 +76/3 + 181/6]

= 95 - [(41/3) x (2/2) + (76/3)x(2/2) + 181/6]

= 95 - [(82/6 + 152/6 +181/6)]

= 95 - [ (82+152+181)/6]

= 95 - [415/6]

= 95/1 - 415/6

= (95/1)  x (6/6) - 415/6

= (570/6)  - (415/6)

= (570-415)/6

= 155/6
