Let us consider the following missing addend question.
3 + __ = 7
The above question tells us that some number is added to 3, the answer is 7.
What number should be added to 3 to get the answer 7 ?
The number can be found by trial and error.
If we add 1 to 3, we get 4.
If we add 2 to 3, we get 5.
If we add 3 to 3, we get 6.
If we add 4 to 3, we get 7.
So we get the correct answer 7 when we add 4 to 3.
The missing addend is 4.
There is one more way to get the missing addend.
Problem 1 :
Find the missing addend.
5 + __ = 12
Solution :
When we subtract 5 from 12, we get 7.
Hence, the missing addend is 7.
Problem 2 :
Find the missing addend.
6 + __ = 20
Solution :
When we subtract 6 from 20, we get 14.
Hence, the missing addend is 14.
Problem 3 :
Find the missing addend.
7 + __ = 9
Solution :
When we subtract 7 from 9, we get 2.
Hence, the missing addend is 2.
Problem 4 :
Find the missing addend.
__ + 5 = 12
Solution :
When we subtract 5 from 12, we get 7.
Hence, the missing addend is 7.
Problem 5 :
Find the missing addend.
9 + __ = 12
Solution :
When we subtract 9 from 12, we get 3.
Hence, the missing addend is 3.
Problem 6 :
Find the missing addend.
0 + __ = 12
Solution :
When we subtract 0 from 12, we get 12.
Hence, the missing addend is 12.
Problem 7 :
Find the missing addend.
0 + __ = 0
Solution :
When we subtract 0 from 0, we get 0.
Hence, the missing addend is 0.
Problem 5 :
Find the missing addend.
1 = __ + 1
Solution :
When we subtract 1 from 1, we get 0.
Hence, the missing addend is 0.
Problem 6 :
Find the missing addend.
8 = __ + 6
Solution :
When we subtract 6 from 8, we get 2.
Hence, the missing addend is 2.
Problem 5 :
Find the missing addend.
21 = 17 + __
Solution :
When we subtract 17 from 21, we get 4.
Hence, the missing addend is 4.
