Math Worksheet for Grade 5 :
In this section, we will see some practice problems for 5th grade students.
Question 1 :
If A = {3, 5, 7, 8} and B = {1, 3, 4, 5, 6} then what will be AUB ?
(A) {1, 3, 5} (B) {1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8} (C) {3, 5}
Solution :
The given sets are A = {3, 5, 7, 8} and B = {1, 3, 4, 5, 6}.
To find AUB, we should combine both the sets A and B.
A U B = {1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8}
Question 2 :
Rewrite the following as algebraic expression 6 less than twice y
(A) 6 - 2y (B) 2y - 6 (C) 12y
Solution :
Twice y = 2y
6 less = 2y - 6
Question 3 :
What is the value of x + x + x ?
(A) 3x (B) x + 3 (C) 3 - x
Solution :
By adding the given expression,, we get 3x.
Question 4 :
Find the value of ac2 when a = 5 and c = 2
(A) 20 (B) 100 (C) 50
Solution :
To find the value of ac2, we should apply the value of a and c in the given expression.
ac2 = 5(2)2
ac2 = 5(4)
ac2 = 20
Question 5 :
Fill in the blanks with <, > or = to make the statement true.
-2 ____ -4
(A) > (B) < (C) =
Solution :
In number line, when we go towards the right side, we get larger number and if we go left side, we get smaller values. From -2 to -4, we move towards the left side. So, -4 is smaller than -2.
The correct sign we have to fix is >.
Question 6 :
What is the additive inverse for -7 ?
(A) 7 (B) 1/7 (C) -7
Solution :
Additive inverse of -7 is 7.
Question 7 :
Subtract 3a from 5a
(A) 2a (B) -2a (C) 7a
Solution :
Subtract 3a from 5a = 5a - 3a
= 2a
Hence the answer is 2a.
Question 8 :
A gardener weeded 1/2 of a garden on Monday, 1/3 of it on Tuesday and 1/8 of it on Wednesday. What fraction of the garden did he weed altogether ?
(A) 9/24 (B) 8/12 (C) 23/24
Solution :
To find the part of garden he weeded, we add the given fractions altogether.
= 1/2 + 1/3 + 1/8
Least common multiple of (2, 3, and 8) is 24
= 12/24 + 8/24 + 3/24
= (12 + 8 + 3)/24
= 23/24
Question 9 :
What is the total cost of these items. Pen $10.50, books $25.75, bag $45.50.
(A) $ 81.75 (B) $ 63.75 (C) $ 12.59
Solution :
To find the total cost of these items, we need to add them.
Cost of pen = 10.50
Cost of books = 25.75
Cost of bag = 45.50
Total cost = 10.50 + 25.75 + 45.50
= 81.75
Question 10 :
A rectangular tank has its internal length, breadth and height equal to 2.5 m, 2 m and 1.5 m respectively. How many liters of water can it hold?
(A) 6000 liters (B) 7500 liters (C) 8000 liters
Solution :
Length of tank = 2.5 m, breadth = 2 m and height = 1.5 m
Capacity of the tank = length x breadth x height
= 2.5 x 2 x 1.5
= 7.5 m3
1 m3 = 1000 liter
= 7.5 (1000)
= 7500 liters
Hence the capacity of the tank is 7500 liters.
