Math Quiz with Answers for Class 6

Question 1 :

A gardener plans to plant 570 trees in 19 rows.Each row is to contain the same number of trees.How many trees will there be in each row?

 (A) 15         (B) 17        (C) 30

Solution :

Number of trees planted 19 rows  =  570

Number of tree planted in one row  =  570/19

  =  30

So, the answer is 30.

Question 2 :

The population of a town is 450772. 1 out of every 14 persons  is reported to be educated. In all, how many educated persons are there in the town.

 (A) 32918          (B) 45123        (C) 15465

Solution :

Total number of people in the town  =  450772

Out of 14 persons 1 person is reported to be educated

Total number of educated persons in total number of people

  =  450772/14

  =  32198

So, the answer is 32198

Question 3 :

The LCM of 20, 25, 30 and 40.

(A) 700      (B) 600     (C) 300

Solution :

Now we are going to find prime factors of 20, 25, 30 and 40 respectively.

20  =  2  2  5

  =  22  5

30  =  2  3  5

25  =  5  5

  =  52

40  =  2  2  2  5

  =  23  5

L.C.M  =  23  52  3

  =  600

So the answer is 600.

Question 4 :

Given that LCM of two numbers is 16 and their product is 64, determine their HCF.

 (A) 15       (B) 4       (C) 12

Solution :

LCM of two numbers  =  16

Product of two numbers  =  64

Relationship between two numbers is

HCF  LCM  =  Product of two numbers

HCF  16  =  64

HCF  =  64/16  =  4

So the answer is 4 .

Question 5 :

The number of boys and girls in a school are 480 and 576  respectively. Express the ratio of the number of boys to that girls in the simplest form.

 (A) 5 : 6      (B) 6 : 5       (C) 2 : 3

Solution :

Total number of boys  =  480

Total number of girls  =  576

Ratio of the number of boys to the number of girls

  =  480 : 576

  =  480/576

  =  5 : 6

So the answer is 5 : 6.

Question 6 :

Find the third term of a proportion whose first, second and fourth terms are respectively 24, 8 and 5

 (A) 20        (B) 18       (C) 15

Solution :

Product of extremes  =  product of means

First term  =  24, Second term  =  8 and Fourth term  =  5

Let x be the third term.

24 : 8 :: x : 5

24 ⋅ 5  =  8 ⋅ x

120  =  8x

x  =  120/8

x  =  15

So the answer is 15.

Question 7 :

Find 20% of 150

(A) 30      (B) 16       (C) 25

Solution :

20% of 150  =  (20/100) ⋅ 150

  =  30

So, the answer is 30.

Question 8 :

Find the value of 2y3 - 3y2 + y - 1, if y  =  -2

(A) -15      (B) -65       (C) -31

Solution :

p(y)  =  2y3 - 3y2 + y - 1

y  =  -2

p(-2)  =  2(-2)3 - 3(-2)2 + (-2) - 1

  =  2(-8) - 3(4) - 2 - 1

  =  -16 - 12 - 2 - 1

  =  -31

Question 9 :

Sum of the three angles of a triangle is ________

(A) 150°       (B) 180°        (C) 120°

Solution :

Sum of angles in a triangle is 180°.

Question 10 :

A tile is a square of side 25 cm. How many such tiles would be required to cover the floor of a square bath room of side is 3 m ?

(A) 130       (B) 177       (C) 144

Solution :

Number of square tiles required  =  Area of bath room / Area of 1 square tile

Side length of floor  =  3 m  =  300 cm

Area of floor  =  a2

Area of floor  =  3002

Area of 1 tile  =  252

Number of square tile  =  3002 / 252

=  (300⋅300)/(25⋅25)

=  12⋅12

=  144

So, the required number of tiles is 144.
