Examples 1-5 : In each case, find the difference of two matrices.
Example 1 :
Solution :
Order of the first matrix = 2 x 2
Order of the second matrix = 2 x 2
Since the order the first matrix and order of the secnd matrix are equal, we can find the difference of the two matrices given above.
Example 2 :
Solution :
Order of the first matrix = 3 x 2
Order of the second matrix = 3 x 2
Since the order the first matrix and order of the secnd matrix are equal, we can find the difference of the two matrices given above.
Example 3 :
Solution :
Order of the first matrix = 3 x 3
Order of the second matrix = 3 x 3
Since the order the first matrix and order of the secnd matrix are equal, we can find the difference of the two matrices given above.
Example 4 :
Solution :
Order of the first matrix = 2 x 3
Order of the second matrix = 2 x 3
Since the order the first matrix and order of the secnd matrix are equal, we can find the difference of the two matrices given above.
Example 5 :
Solution :
Order of the first matrix = 3 x 2
Order of the second matrix = 2 x 2
Since the order the first matrix and order of the secnd matrix are NOT equal, we can NOT find the difference of the two matrices given above.
Example 6 :
Find the values of a, b, c and d in the following matrix equation.
Solution :
Since the above two matrices are equal of the same order, the corresponding elements can be equated.
a - 2 = 3
a = 5
5b = 15
b = 3
-2c = -2
c = 1
2d = 8
d = 4
