GRADE 6 MATH PRACTICE WORKSHEET

Question 1 :

A cinema hall is to be constructed in which each row must have 36 seats. Determine the minimum number of rows required to seat 600 persons at one time.

(A) 15 rows        (B) 17 rows        (C) 30 rows

Solution :

Total number of persons to be seated  =  600

Number of rows  =  600 / 36

  =  16.6

  =  17 rows

Question 2 :

Add -37 and -42

(A) -5      (B) -79        (C) 79

Solution :

 -37 and -42  =  -37 - 42

  =  -79

Question 3 :

Two tankers contain 850 liters and 680 liters of petrol, respectively. Find the maximum capacity of the container which can measure the petrol of either tanker in exact number of times.

(A) 170 L         (B) 150 L        (C) 125 L

Solution :

The capacity of required container will be obtained by finding the HCF of the capacity of tankers

850  =  2 ⋅ ⋅ 5 ⋅ 17

680  =  2 ⋅ 2⋅ 2⋅ 5 ⋅ 17

Common factors of 850 and 680  =  {2, 5, 17}

HCF  =  2 ⋅ ⋅ 17

  = 170

Question 4 :

The traffic lights at three different road crossings change after every 48 seconds, 72 and 108 seconds respectively. If they change simultaneously at 7 a.m after what time will they change again simultaneously ?

(A) 8 min 12 sec      (B) 5 min 30 sec        (C) 7 min 12 sec

Solution :

LCM  =  2⋅ 3 ⋅ 2 ⋅ 3 ⋅ 2 ⋅ 2 ⋅ 3

  =  432

After 432 seconds it will change again.

=  432 / 60

  =  7 minutes 12 seconds

Hence the answer is 7 minutes 12 seconds.

Question 5 :

A Plane flies 4000 km in 5 hours. How far does it fly in 3 hours ?

(A) 2400 km       (B) 6000 km      (C) 3200 km

Solution :

In 5 hours it can fly 4000 km.

1 hour  =  4000/5

1 hour  =  800 km

3 hours  =  2400 km

Question 6 :

Find the number of girl students in a school, if there are 28% girl student in the school and the total number of students in the school is 1000.

(A) 200      (B) 180       (C) 280

Solution :

Total number of students  =  1000

Number of girls  =  28% of 1000

  =  (28/100) ⋅ 1000

  =  280

Number of girls is 280.

Question 7 :

Peter obtained 285 marks out of the maximum of 500 marks. Find the percentage of marks obtained by peter.

(A) 30%       (B) 57%        (C) 25%

Solution :

Percentage of marks  =  (285/500) ⋅ 100%

=  57%

Question 8 :

Find the value of a- 2(b2 + c2) if a = 2, b = 3 and c = 1

(A) -16         (B) 24       (C) 30

Solution :

a = 2, b = 3 and c = 1

   =  2- 2(32 + 12

  =  4 - 2(9 + 1)

  =  4 - 2 (10)

  =  4 - 20

  =  -16

Question 9 :

An angle of measure 180° is called a _________________

(A) Straight angle       (B) Right angle       (C) Zero angle

Solution :

An angle of measure 180° is called a straight angle.

Question 10 :

Find the perimeter of a rectangle whose length and breadth are 16 cm and 8 cm respectively.

(A) 24 cm        (B) 15 cm         (C) 48 cm

Solution :

Length  =  16 cm and breadth =  8 cm

Perimeter of the rectangle  =  2(l + b)

  =  2(16 + 8)

  =  2(24)

  =  48 cm

Hence the perimeter of the rectangle is 48 cm.
