GRADE 6 MATH PRACTICE SHEET

Question 1 :

How many 5's in 300

(A) 50          (B) 30          (C) 60

Solution :

To find the number of 5's in 300, you should divide 300 by 5. We get 60. So, there is 60 three's in 300.

Question 2 :

Add 15.24 + 18.23

(A) 15.24         (B) 114.84          (C) 33.47

Solution :

=  15.24 + 18.23

  =  33.47

The sum of given decimals is 33.47.

Question 3 :

The wrong number of the sequence 1, 8, 27, 64, 124, 216, 343 is

(A) 150     (B) 124       (C) 117

Solution :

By observing the sequence, every term is the cube of natural numbers except 124.

So 124 is the wrong number in the sequence.

Question 4 :

A triangle with sides of length 6, 8 and 10 is a

(A) Equilateral triangle     (B) Scalene triangle

(C) Right triangle

Solution :

Verifying pythagorean theorem :

10=  62 + 82

100  =  36 + 64

100  =  100

Hence the given measures are sides of right triangle.

Question 5 :

In parallelogram ABCD, AB  =  x + 8, BC  =  3x and DC  =  4x - 4. What is the perimeter?

(A) 12       (B) 20        (C) 48

Solution :

In a parallelogram, the opposite sides are equal.

x + 8  =  4x - 4

4x - x  =  8 + 4

3x  =  12

x  =  4

AB  =  4 + 8

AB  =  12

The Opposite side of AB is C.

CD  =  4(4) - 4

CD  =  16 - 4

CD  =  12

BC  =  3(4)

BC  =  12

The opposite side of BC is DA.

DA  =  12

Perimeter of parallelogram  =  AB + BC + CD + DA

=  12 + 12 + 12 + 12

=  48

Question 6 :

An omelet requires 2 eggs and 1 pepper. I have 13 eggs and 8 peppers. How many whole omelets can I make?

(A) 4        (B) 8      (C) 6

Solution :

There are 6 pairs in 13 eggs and we can use 6 peppers out of 8 peppers. We can make 6 omlets in whole.

So, the answer is 6.

Question 7 :

Find the area of the circle with radius 3 cm

(A) 7π cm2      (B) 9π cm2       (C) 12π cm2

Solution :

Area of circle  =  πr2

Radius  =  3 cm

Area of circle  =  π(3) =  9π

So, the answer is 9π cm2.

Question 8 :

The sum of angles in a triangle is ________

(A) 120°         (B) 180°        (C) 90 °

Solution :

Sum of the angles of a triangle is 180 degrees.

Question 9 :

Find the side length of the square if diagonal measures 4 cm

(A) 10 cm2          (B) 6 cm2            (C) 8 cm2

Solution :

Let x be the side length of the square. In a square the diagonal divides it into two right triangles.

x2 + x2  =  42

2x2  =  16

x2  =  8

Area of square is 8 cm2

Question 10 :

The reduced common fraction for the sum of (3/8) and (8/3) is

(A) 24/73       (B) 73/14        (C) 73/24

Solution :

  =  (3/8) + (8/3)

  =  (9 + 64)/24

  =  73 / 24

So, the answer is 73/24.
