Fraction :

Numerator :

Denominator :

The bottom number of a fraction representing how many total pieces your whole is split into.

Example :

Fraction Bar :

The dividing line between the numerator and denominator in a fraction, also called division bar or fraction line.

Improper Fraction :

A fraction where the numerator is equal to or larger than the denominator. In other words, the value of the fraction is equal to 1 or more.

Example :

9/7

Proper Fraction :

A fraction where the numerator is a smaller number than the denominator. In other words, the value of the fraction is less than 1.

Example :

7/9

Mixed Number :

A fraction amount that falls between two whole numbers. consists of a whole number and a proper fraction.

Example :

3½

Equivalent Fractions :

Fractions that have the same value but are represented by different numerators and denominators.

Example :

6/8 = 3/4

Unit Fraction :

Fractions with a 1 in the numerator and represent one shaded part of all the equal parts of a whole.

Example :

1/8

1/2 is the fraction equal to 'a half of'.

1/4 is the fraction equal to 'a quarter of'.

Greatest Common Factor (GCF) :

The greatest number that can divide a set of numbers evenly, used for simplifying fractions.

Least Common Multiple (LCM) :

The smallest multiple that a set of numbers has in common, used for finding common denominator.
