Detailed Answer Key

1. Answer :

Here, we convert smaller unit into bigger unit. So we have to divide.

30 inches  =  30 / 12 feet

30 inches  =  2.5 feet

2. Answer :

Here, we convert bigger unit into smaller unit. So we have to multiply.

2 pounds  =  2 x 16 ounces

2 pounds  =  32 ounces

3. Answer :

Here, we convert smaller unit into bigger unit. So we have to divide.

32 cups  =  32 / 4 quarts

32 cups  =  8 quarts

Hence, 32 cups is equal to 8 quarts.

4. Answer :

Here, we convert smaller unit into bigger unit. So we have to divide.

30 decimeters  =  30/10 meters

30 decimeters  =  3 meters

Hence, 30 decimeters is equal to 3 meters.

5. Answer :

Here, we convert bigger unit into smaller unit. So we have to multiply.

2 kg  =  2 x 1000 grams

2 kg  =  2000 grams

Hence, 2 kg is equal to 2000 grams.

6. Answer :

Here, we convert bigger unit into smaller unit. So we have to multiply.

3.5 deciliters  =  3.5 x 10 centiliters

3.5 deciliters  =  35 centiliters

Hence, 3.5 deciliters is equal to 35 centiliters.

7. Answer :

Distance covered in 2 hours  =  60 kilometers

Distance covered in 1 hour  =  30 kilometers

We know that 1 hour  =  60 minutes and 1 kilometer  =  1000 m

1 hour -----> 30 km =====> 60 minutes -----> 30 x 1000 m

60 minutes -----> 30000 meters

So, distance covered in 60 minutes  =  30000 meters

Distance covered in one minute  =  30000 / 60 meters

=  500 meters

8. Answer :

Speed  =  Distance / Time

Speed  =  15840 / 45

Speed  =  352 meters per minute

9. Answer :

Both Becky and Keith took the same amount of time. That is 20 minutes.

Distance covered by Becky and Keith are given in different units. (Miles and Feet)

We have to make the units to be same.

Let us convert miles in to feet.

So, 2 miles  =  2 x 5280 feet  =  10560 feet

Therefore,

Distance covered by Becky  =  10560 feet -----(1)

Distance covered by Keith  =  10000 feet -----(2)

Difference between (1) and (2) ----> 10560 - 10000

=  560 feet

10. Answer :

1 hour 36 minutes  =  60 min + 36 min  =  96 minutes

1 pound  =  16 ounces

24 pounds  =  24 x 16 ounces  =  384 ounces

1 hour 36 min --> 24 pounds ==> 96 minutes --> 384 pounds

So, no. of pounds prepared in 96 minutes  =  384 ounces

No. of ounces prepared in in one minute  =  384 / 96  =  4

11. Answer :

1 quart = 32 ounces

6 quart = 6 x 32

= 192 ounces

Quantity of each cup = 12 ounces

Number of cups to be filled = 192/12

= 16 cups

12. Answer :

Weight of each container = 24 oz

Number of containers he has purchased = 24 (3)

= 72 ounces

1 pound = 16 ounces

Converting ounces to pounds, we get

= 72/16

= 4.5 pounds

So, she has purchased 4.5 pounds.

13. Answer :

Area of rectangle = 45 square inches

length x width = 45

one dimension = 5 inches, let length be 5 inches

5 x width = 45

width = 45/5

= 9 inches

So, width of the rectangle is 9 inches

14. Answer :

a) Area = length x width

= 16 x 3

48 square feet

b) Cost per square meter = $28

Required cost = 48(28)

= $1344
