Problem 10 :
PQRS are four places. Distance from P and Q is 75 miles, distance from Q to R is 15 miles more than the distance from P to Q and the distance from R to S is four-third of the distance from Q to R. Find the total distance from place P to place S.
Solution :
Distance from P to Q :
= 75 miles
Distance from Q to R :
= 75 + 15
= 90 miles
Distance from R to S :
= 4/3 ⋅ (Distance from Q to R)
= 4/3 ⋅ 90 miles
= 4 ⋅ 30
= 120 miles
Total distance from P to S :
= (P to Q) + (Q to R) + (R to S)
= 75 + 90 + 120
= 285 miles
