# ADDITION TABLES 1 TO 20

## Adding One-Digit Number and One-Digit Number

It is easier to add one digit number and one digit number, when the result is less than 10.

Examples :

1 + 2 = 3

3 + 4 = 7

5 + 4 = 9

6 + 2 = 8

How to add one digit number and one digit number, when the result is greater than 10?

7 + 5

Here, 7 is close to the round figure 10. To make 7 as 10, we have to add 3 to 7. Take 3 from 5 and add it to 7 and do the rest of the process.

= 7 + 5

= 7 + 3 + 2

= 10 + 2

= 12

## Adding One-Digit Number and Two- Digit Number

Write the given two digit number in terms of multiple of 10 and do the addition process as explained below.

Example 1 :

Evaluate :

12 + 5

Solution :

= 12 + 5

= 10 + 2 + 5

= 10 + 7

= 17

Example 2 :

Evaluate :

14 + 8

Solution :

Here, 8 is close to the round figure 10. To make 8 as 10, we have to add 2 to 8. Take 2 from 14 and add it to 8 and do the rest of the process.

= 14 + 8

= 12 + 2 + 8

= 12 + 10

= 22

## Adding Two-Digit Number and Two-Digit Number

Write the given two digit numbers in terms of multiple of 10 and do the addition process as explained below.

Example 3 :

Evaluate :

13 + 14

Solution :

= 13 + 14

= 10 + 3 + 10 + 4

= 10 + 10 + 3 + 4

= 20 + 7

= 27

Example 4 :

Evaluate :

15 + 16

Solution :

= 15 + 16

= 10 + 10 + 5 + 6

= 10 + 5 + 10 + 6

= 20 + 11

= 31

Example 5 :

Evaluate :

16 + 19

Solution :

Here, 19 is close to the round figure 20. To make 19 as 10, we have to add 1 to 19. Take 1 from 16 and add it to 19 and do the rest of the process.

= 16 + 19

= 15 + 1 + 19

= 15 + 20

= 35

Example 6 :

Evaluate :

27 + 14

Solution :

Here, 27 is close to the round figure 30. To make 27 as 30, we have to add 3 to 27. Take 3 from 14 and add it to 27 and do the rest of the process.

= 27 + 14

= 27 + 3 + 11

= 30 + 11

= 41
