6th Grade Math Test with Answers

Question 1 :

What is the successor of the number 1000906

(A) 100907       (B) 1000907      (C) 1000905

Solution :

Successor means the next number.

To find the next number, we have to add 1 with this number.

1000906 + 1  =  1000907

So, the answer is 1000907.

Question 2 :

Find the sum of 13, 412, 687 and 908

(A) 2020       (B) 2000        (C) 1950

Solution :

13 + 412 + 687 + 908  =  2020

So, the answer is 2020.

Question 3 :

The population of a town is 450772. 1 out of every 14 persons is reported to be educated. In all, how many educated persons are there in the town.

(A) 32198        (B) 35000       (C) 14625

Solution :

Total number of persons  =  450772

1 out of 14 to be educated

Total number of educated persons  =  (1/14)  450772

 =  32198

So, the correct answer is 32198.

Question 4 :

The population of a village is 1500. If 489 are men and 472 are women.Find the number of children.

(A) 530      (B) 539     (C) 125

Solution :

Total number of persons in the village  =  1500

Number of men  =  489

Number of women  =  472

To find the total number of children, we have to subtract the sum of men and women from the total number of people.

Number of children  =  1500 - (489 + 472)

  = 1500 - 961

  = 539

So, the answer is 539.

Question 5 :

Find the cube of -13.

 (A) 3250          (B) 2197          (C) 4125

Solution :

To find the cube of -13 we have to multiply -13 three times

(-13)3  =  -13 (-13) (-13)

  =  2197

So, the answer is 2197

Question 6 :

Simplify the following expression:

30 - [15 - {6 + (18 - 14)}]

 (A) 15            (B) 25          (C) 28

Solution :

  =  30 - [15 - {6 + (18 - 14)}]

  =  30 - [15 - {6 + 4}]

  =  30 - [15 - 10]

  =  30 - 5

=  25

So, the answer is 25.

Question 7 :

What is the largest 4 digit number?

(A) 4444        (B) 9999       (C) 8572

Solution :

The largest four digit number is 9999

So the answer is 9999.

Question 8 :

HCF  and LCM of two numbers are 5 and 280 respectively .If one of the number is 35, find the other number.

(A) 20         (B) 30          (C) 40

Solution :

HCF of two numbers  =  5

LCM of two numbers  =  280

One of the number  =  35

Relationship between LCM and HCF

Product of two numbers  =  HCF  LCM

35  x  =  5  280

35x  =  1400

x  =  1400/35

x  =  40

So the answer is 40.

Question 9 :

An office opens at 9:00 a.m and closes at 5:30 p.m with a lunch interval of 30 minutes.What is the ratio of lunch interval to the total period in office.

 (A) 1 : 17       (B) 17 : 1           (C) 15 : 2

Solution :

Total period of office time = 8 hours 30 minutes

Time taken for lunch interval = 30 minutes

Now we are going to take the total office time from hours to minutes

 60 minutes + 30 minutes : 30 minutes

480 + 30 : 30

510 : 30

  =  510/30

  =  51/3

  =  17 : 1

So the answer is 17 : 1

Question 10 :

Solve the equation x - 7 = -15

 (A) -7        (B) -8          (C) 5

Solution :

Solve the equation x - 7 = -15

To find value for x,

x = - 15 + 7

x = -8

So the answer is -8.
