7TH GRADE MATH TEST WITH ANSWERS

Question 1 :

A water tank has steps inside it.One monkey is sitting on the topmost step(i.e the first step). The water is at the ninth step. He jumps 3 steps down and then jumps 2 steps up.In how many jumps will he reach the water level?

(A)   13 jumps         (B)  15 jumps    (C)  11 jumps

Solution :

For every time it jumps 3 steps down and goes 2 steps up.

Number of steps coming down

Number of steps going back

1st jump = 1 + 3 = 4 steps

3rd jump = 2 + 3 = 5 steps

5th jump = 3 + 3 = 6 steps

7th jump = 4 + 3 = 7 steps

9th jump = 5 + 3 = 8 steps

11th jump = 6 + 3 = 9steps

2nd jump = 4 – 2 = 2 steps

4th jump = 5 – 2 = 3 steps

6th jump = 6 – 2 = 4 steps

 8th jump = 7 – 2 = 5 steps

 10th jump = 8 – 2 = 6 steps

He will reach ninth steps in 11 jumps.

Question 2 :

James goes 20 km towards east from a point A to the point B. From B, he moves 30 km towards along the same road. If the distance towards east represents a positive integer then, how will you represent the distance traveled towards west?

(A)  5            (B)  8              (C)  10

Solution :

A is the initial point,

Since James moves towards east 20 km

It can be taken as +20

James moves towards west 30 km

It can be taken as -30

Distance between initial point and final point

-30 + 20  = -10 km

Hence James moves towards west 10 km.

Question 3 :

Express 200 grams in kg.

(A)  0.2 kg     (B)  0.5 kg     (C)  1 kg

Solution :

1 kg  =  1000 grams

In order to convert grams to kg, we have to divide 200 grams by 1000.

  =  200/1000

  =  0.2 kg

Question 4 :

James studies for 4 hours, 5 hours and 3 hours respectively on three consecutive days. How many hours does he study on an average?

(A)   4 hours        (B) 8 hours         (C)  3 hours

Solution :

Average number of hours he studies  =  (4 + 5 + 3)/3

=  12/3

=  4  hours

Question 5 :

Read the bar graph which shows the number of books sold by a bookstore during five consecutive years and answer the following question.in which year were about 450 books sold?

(A)  1989         (B)  1990       (C)  1991

Solution :

From the above bar graph, we come to know that the bookshop has sold about 450 books in the year 1990

Question 6 :

The sum of three times a number and 11 is 32. Determine the number.

(A)  7    (B)  3   (C)  5

Solution :

Let "x" be the required number

3x + 11  =  32

Subtract by 11 on both sides, we get

3x  =  32 - 11

3x  =  21

Divide by 3 on both sides,

x  =  21/3  =  7

Hence the required number is 7.

Question 7 :

In the triangle ABC find the angle x?

(A)   100°        (B)  70°             (C)  50°

Solution :

Sum of interior angles in a triangle is  =  180°

<A + <B + <C  =  180°

x + 50 + 60  =  180

x + 110  =  180

x  =  180 - 110

x  =  70°

Question 8 :

Convert the given decimal 0.75 as percent.

(A)   35%       (B)   27%      (C)  75%

Solution :

In order to convert 0.75 as percentage, we have to multiply and divide 0.75 by 100.

 =  0.75  (100/100)

=  75/100  =  75%

Question 9 :

A school team won 6 games this year against 4 games won the last year. what is the percent increase?

(A)  50            (B)  25             (C)  80

Solution :

Number of games won in the last year  =  4

Number of games won in this year  =  6

Increased number of winnings  =  6 - 4  =  2

Percent increase  =  (2/4)  100

  =  (1/2) 100

  =  50%

Question 10 :

The area of a square and a rectangle are equal. If the side of the square is 40 cm and the width of the rectangle is 25 cm, determine the length of the rectangle.

(A)  50 cm       (B)  64 cm      (C)   30 cm

Solution :

Given :

Area of square  =  Area of rectangle

Side length of square   =  40 cm

Width of rectangle  =  25 cm

a2  =  length  width

(40)2  =  length  25

length  =  1600/25

  =  64 cm
