# Factoring Worksheet1

In this page factoring worksheet1 we are going to see solution of question 1 to question 4.

Question 1:

Factorize x² + 5 x + 6

Solution:

We dont have any number before square term. So that we can take the last term 6. Then we have to split 6 as two numbers and the simplified value two numbers must be equal to the middle term.

= x² + 5 x + 6

= x² + 2 x + 3 x  + 6

= x(x + 2) + 3 (x  + 2)

= (x + 2) (x  + 3)

Question 2:

Factorize x² - 2 x - 15

Solution:

We dont have any number before square term. So that we can take the last term -15. Then we have to split -15 as two numbers and the simplified value two numbers must be equal to the middle term.

= x² - 2 x - 15

= x² - 5 x + 3 x  - 15

= x(x - 5) + 3 (x  - 5)

= (x - 5) (x  + 3)

Question 3:

Factorize x² - 4 x + 3

Solution:

We dont have any number before square term. So that we can take the last term 3. Then we have to split 3 as two numbers and the simplified value two numbers must be equal to the middle term.

= x² - 4 x + 3

= x² -  x - 3 x  + 3

= x(x - 1) - 3 (x  - 1)

= (x - 1) (x  - 3)

Question 4:

Factorize y² - 21 y - 72

Solution:

We dont have any number before square term. So that we can take the last term -72. Then we have to split 3 as two numbers and the simplified value two numbers must be equal to the middle term.

= y² - 21 y - 72

= y² -  24 y + 3 y - 72

= y(y - 24) + 3 (y  - 24)

= (y - 24) (y  + 3)
