Find the centroid of triangle whose vertices are (-1,-3) (2,1) and (2,-4).

Solution:

Let the vertices be A (-1,-3) B (2,1) and C (2,-4)

x₁ = -1 x₂ = 2 x₃ = 2

y₁ = -3 y₂ = 1 y₃ = -4

Formula:

Centroid of a triangle = (x₁+x₂+x₃)/3, (y₁+y₂+y₃)/3

= [ (-1) + 2 + 2 ] / 3 , [ (-3) + 1 + (-4) ] / 3

= [ -1 + 4 ] / 3 , [ -3 + 1 - 4] /3

= [3/3 , (-7 + 1)/3

= [ 1, (-6/3) ]

= (1,-2)
