6th Grade Math Quiz :

In this section, we will see some practice questions for 6th grade students.

6th Grade Math Quiz

Question 1 :

Jennifer can buy bottles of water in packages of 6 for $14.76. How much money will she give for 48 bottles ?

(A) $128.05        (B) $118.08        (C) $156.04

Solution :

Cost of 6 bottles packaged water  =  $14.76

Cost of 1 bottle packaged water  =  14.76/6

  =  2.46

Cost of 48 bottles  =  48 2.46

  =  $118.08

So the answer is $118.08

Question 2 :

Add -37 and -42

(A) -5         (B) -79      (C) 54

Solution :

  =  -37 + (-42)

  =  -37-42

  =  -79

So the answer is -79.

Question 3 :

Two tankers contain 850 liters and 680 liters of petrol, respectively.Find the maximum capacity of the container which can measure the petrol of either tanker in exact number of times.

(A) 170 liter    (B) 150 liter      (C) 125 liter

Solution :

To find the maximum capacity of container.

We have to find HCF.

850  =  5  2  17  5

850  =  52  2  17

680  =  5  2  17  2  2

680  =  5  23  17

H.C.F  =  5  17  2

=  170 liter

So the answer is 170 liter.

Question 4 :

The traffic lights at three different road crossings change after every 48 sec, 72 sec and 108 sec respectively. If they all change simultaneously at 8:20:00 hrs, when will they again change simultaneously ?

(A) 8:27:12 hrs      (B) 8:27:24 hrs    (C) 8:27:48 hrs

Solution :

To find the time, when they will all change simultaneously,

We have to find the L.C.M of (48, 72, 108).

L.C.M of (48, 72, 108) is 432 seconds  =  7 min 12 sec

So, after every 7 min 12 sec, all the signals will change simultaneously.

At 8:20:00 hrs, if all the three signals change simultaneously, again they will change simultaneously after 7 min 12 sec. That is at 8:27:12 hrs.

The three signals will change simultaneously at 8:27:12 seconds.

So the answer is 8:27:12 hrs.

Question 5 :

A Plane flies 4000 km in 5 hours. How far does it fly in 3 hours ?

(A) 2400 km       (B) 6000 km        (C) 3200 km

Solution :

The plane flies 4000 km in 5 hours

For that we have to divide 4000 by 5

The height of the plane reached by the plane in 1 hour = 4000/5

  =  800 km

Height covered by the plane in 3 hours

  =  800 x 3

  =  2400 km

So the answer is 2400 km hrs.

Question 6 :

Find the number of girl students in a school, if there are 28% girl student in the school and the total number of students in the school is 1000.

(A) 200       (B) 180      (C) 280

Solution :

Total number of students in the class  =  1000

Out of 1000 students 28% of students are girls

So, number of girls  =  28 % of 1000

  =  (28/100)  1000

  =  (28  10)

  =  280

So the answer is 280.

Question 7 :

Peter obtained 285 marks out of the maximum of 500 marks.Find the percentage of marks obtained by peter.

(A) 30%       (B) 57%     (C) 25%

Solution :

Marks obtained by Peter  =  285

Total marks allotted for the examination  =  500

To find percentage of marks obtained by Peter

=  marks obtained by peter/Total marks

  =  (285/500)

  =  0.57

To convert this into percent we have to multiply it by 100.

So, (0.57  100) = 57%

Therefore percentage of marks obtained by Peter  =  57%

So the answer is 57%.

Question 8 :

Find the value of a2- 2 (b2 + c2)

if a = 2, b = 3 and c = 1

(A) -16      (B) -24      (C) -30

Solution :

To find the value of a2- 2 (b2 + c2)

we have to apply 2 for a, 3 for b and and 1 for c

  =  22 - 2 (32 + 12)

  =  4 - 2(9 + 1)

  =  4 - 2(10)

  =  4 - 20

  =  -16

So the answer for this question is -16.

Question 9 :

An angle of measure 180° is called a _________________

(A) Straight angle    (B) Right angle    (C) Zero angle

Solution :

Straight angle So the correct answer for this question is Straight angle

Question 10 :

Find the perimeter of a rectangle whose length and breadth are 16 cm and 8 cm respectively.

(A) 24 cm      (B) 15 cm       (C) 48 cm

Solution :

Length of the rectangle  =  16 cm

Breadth of rectangle  =  8 cm

Perimeter of rectangle  =  2 (length + breadth)

  =  2(16 + 8)

  =  2(24)

  =  48 cm

So the answer is 48 cm.
