**How to arrange the given ratios in ascending order:**

(i) First write the given ratios in the form of fraction. For example write the ratios a : b as a/b and c : d as c/d

(ii) Now we have to consider the denominators.

(iii) If the denominator are same we can just compare the numerators and write the fractions from greater to smaller.

(iv) If the denominators are not then we have to make them as same by taking L.C.M

(v) Arrange fractions from smaller to greater

(vi) Write the fractions as ratios.

This kind of problems can be done by using another method,that is we have to write the fraction in the decimal form and we can arrange them from smaller to larger.

Let us see each problems from the worksheet in both ways

(4) Arrange the ratios in ascending order

(i) 2 : 5 , 3 : 4 , 17 : 20 and 19 : 25

**Solution:**

**Method 1 :**

2 : 5 = 2/5

3 : 4 = 3/4

17 : 20 = 17/20

19 : 25 = 19/25

Since the denominators are not same,we have to take L.C.M to make them as same.

L.C.M of 5 , 4 ,20 and 25 is 100

(2/5) **x** (20/20) = 40/100

(3/4) **x** (25/25) = 75/100

(17/20) **x** (5/5) = 85/100

(19/25) **x** (4/4) = 76/100

(40/100) < (75/100) < (76/100) < (85/100)

(2/5) < (3/4) < (19/25) < (17/20)

2 : 5 < 3 : 4 < 19 : 25 < 17 : 20

Therefore ascending order is **3 : 4 < 2 : 5 < 19 : 25 < 17 : 20 **

**Method 2 :**

2 : 5 = 2/5 = 0.4

3 : 4 = 3/4 = 0.75

17 : 20 = 17/20 = 0.85

19 : 25 = 19/25 = 0.76

By comparing the decimals we are going to write from smaller to greater.

0.4 < 0.75 < 0.76 < 0.85

(2/5) < (3/4) < (19/25) < (17/20)

2 : 5 < 3 : 4 < 19 : 25 < 17 : 20

Therefore ascending order is **3 : 4 < 2 : 5 < 19 : 25 < 17 : 20 **
