Ratio and Proportion Solution1

In this page ratio and proportion solution1 we are going to see solution of each question from the worksheet ratio and proportion.

Before going to see solution first let us look into the definition.

This is a comparison of the sizes of two or more quantities of the same kind. If "p" and "q" are the two quantities of the same kind as well as in the same units, the fraction p/q is called the ratio of "p" to "q".
Thus, the ratio. of "p" to "q" = p/q or p:q. The quantities "p" and "q" are called the terms of the ratio. "p" is known the first term or antecedent "q" is called the second term or consequent.

(i) Find the ratio between 7 paise and Rs.2.25

Solution:

Now we are going to make them as same units. For that we are going convert Rs into paise.

1 rupee = 100 paise

Rs 2.25  = 2.25 x 100 = 225 paise

Now we are going to find the ratio

         7 : 225

We cannot simplify this here after. So we can decide that 7 paise and Rs 2.25 in the ratio 7:225

(ii) Find the ratio between 8 months and 1 year 6 months

Solution:

Now we are going to make them as same units. For that we are going convert year into months

1 year = 12 months

1 year 6 months = 12 + 6 = 18 months

Now we are going to find the ratio between 8 months and 1 year 6 months

             =  8 : 18

             =  8/18

             =  4/9

             =  4 : 9

Therefore ratio between 8 months and 1 year 6 months is 4 : 9

(iii) 2.4 meters and 80 cm

Solution:

Now we are going to make them as same units. For that we are going convert meter into cm

1 meter = 100 cm

2.4 meter = 2.4 x 100 = 240 cm

Now we are going to find the ratio between 2.4 meters and 80 cm

             =  240 : 80

             =  240/80

             =  24/8

             =  6/4

             =  3/2

             =  3 : 2

Therefore ratio between 2.4 meters and 80 cm is 3 : 2

(iv) 1.5 kg and 75 gm

Solution:

Now we are going to make them as same units. For that we are going convert kg into gm

1 kg = 1000 gram

1.5 kg = 1.5 x 1000 = 1500 gm

Now we are going to find the ratio between 1.5 kg and 75 gm

             =  1500 : 75

             =  300/15

             =  60/3

             =  12/1

             =  12 : 1

Therefore ratio between 1.5 kg and 75 gm is 12 : 1
