ADDING AND SUBTRACTING MATRICES

Addition or subtraction of two matrices can be done by simplifying the corresponding terms in the matrix.

Note :

If the order those matrices are not same, then we cannot add those matrices.

Example of Addition of Two Matrices

Add the following matrices.

Solution :

Step 1 :

Grouping the corresponding terms.

Step 2 :

Simplify the corresponding terms.

Step 3 :

The simplified matrix is the result.

Example of Subtraction of Two Matrices

Subtract the following matrices.

Solution :

Step 1 :

Grouping the corresponding terms.

Step 2 :

Simplify the corresponding terms.

Step 3 :

The simplified matrix is the result.
