**Adding fractions with whole numbers :**

Here, we are going to see, how to add fractions with whole numbers.

Steps to add fraction and whole number.

**Step 1 : **

Multiply the denominator and whole number.

**Step 2 :**

After having multiplied the denominator and whole number, take the denominator of the fraction as common denominator.

**Step 3 : **

Now, add the numbers at the numerator.

The figure given below illustrates the above steps.

**Problem 1 : **

Add : 1/2 + 1

**Solution : **

**Step 1 : **

Multiply the denominator 2 and whole number 1.

**Step 2 : **

The result of step 1 is 2.

Now, take the denominator 2 as common denominator for the sum (1 + 2)

**Step 3 : **

Now we get,

(1 + 2) / 2 = 3 / 2

**Hence, the sum of 1/2 and 1 is 3/2**

**Problem 2 : **

Add : 3/2 + 10

**Solution : **

**Step 1 : **

Multiply the denominator 2 and whole number 10.

**Step 2 : **

The result of step 1 is 20.

Now, take the denominator 20 as common denominator for the sum (3 + 20)

**Step 3 : **

Now we get,

(3 + 20) / 2 = 23 / 2

**Hence, the sum of 3/2 and 10 is 23/2**

**Problem 3 : **

Add : 5 + 2/3

**Solution : **

**Step 1 : **

Multiply the denominator 5 and whole number 3.

**Step 2 : **

The result of step 1 is 15.

Now, take the denominator 3 as common denominator for the sum (15 + 2)

**Step 3 : **

Now we get,

(15 + 2) / 3 = 17 / 3

**Hence, the sum of 5 and 2/3 is 17/3**

**Problem 4 : **

Add : 7/8 + 9

**Solution : **

**Step 1 : **

Multiply the denominator 8 and whole number 9.

**Step 2 : **

The result of step 1 is 72.

Now, take the denominator 72 as common denominator for the sum (7 + 72)

**Step 3 : **

Now we get,

(7 + 72) / 8 = 79 / 8

**Hence, the sum of 7/8 and 9 is 79/8.**

**Problem 5 : **

Add : 7 + 5/8

**Solution : **

**Step 1 : **

Multiply the denominator 8 and whole number 7.

**Step 2 : **

The result of step 1 is 56.

Now, take the denominator 56 as common denominator for the sum (56 + 5)

**Step 3 : **

Now we get,

(56 + 5) / 8 = 61 / 8

**Hence, the sum of 7 and 5/8 is 61/8.**
